Horizontal sliding windows are windows that usually have one side which is fixed while the other side slides to the left or right side. A double horizontal slider window is also available from some manufacturers. In this type of window there is no fixed unit, both units are able to slide back and forth.

Advantages

This is the least expensive opening window.

Disadvantages

A sliding window is the least energy efficient window as the weatherstripping is a friction fit. Ideally the tightest friction fit would allow for the best seal against the elements but the ability to slide back and forth would be severely hampered, thus a happy medium must be reached to achieve the best seal while still being operational.
